Rough Week

Well, as you can see by the photo Malachi had x-rays done this past week- 2 video x-rays and 5 regular x-rays to be exact. She had blood drawn twice- which resulted in 6 needles and lots of baby screaming and some mom and dad crying. She also had an ultra-sound done. Saw 3 doctors, four radiologists, and we spent 5 out of the last 7 days at the hospital.

Lets just say it has not been a fun week. But the Lord is good, oh so good. Despite it all our sweet little girl handled with smiles and her overall to die for sweetness (other then the blood draw). We still waiting on a few more lab results, but its beginning to look like whatever was effecting her has passed- Praise the LORD!!

In brief, Thursday I noticed bright red spots in Malachi's diapers. We got in to see a pediatrician on Friday and were immediately shuffled over to check her blood levels (make sure she hadn't lost too much in her diapers) and to see if she had Introsessesption. Her levels came back clear and the ultrasound and x-ray revealed nothing, so I was advised to go on a dairy and soy free diet in case she was having a bad reaction to what I was consuming. (I exclusively breastfeed) She had to take formula for 4 days while I worked on gettin my milk "clean" (heartbreaking, by the way, to not be able to provide the best for my daughter).

We went back to the doctor on Saturday for a follow-up since she was still losing blood. We find out Friday's labwork showed no infection. YAY!

Sunday, no bloody stool, but Malachi breaks out in a nasty rash.

Then Monday came around and we had another follow-up plus Malachi's regular 2 month check-up and shots. Because she was bleeding again another round of bloodwork was ordered to make sure she wasn't losing too much, and also to test for food allergies. We're scheduled for a upper GI exam for Wednesday and given the number for a GI specialist in Austin. (yay :S) She gets an oral medication for yeast infection and starts probiotics.

Tuesday, I get the okay to start breastfeeding again!! (With a restricted no diary, no egg, no citrus diet)

Wednesday comes and we go to the GI exam. Malachi had to drink the gross chalky white stuff for the exam so they could watch how she digested it on the video x-ray. Many x-rays later the radiologist tells us that Malachi looks great! And no bloody stools! Thank the Lord!

Thursday's follow-up went well. Still no bloody stools. The rash was almost completely cleared up- we picked up some special cream to completely kick it away. She was down in wieght a little, but the doctor wasn't concerned it was too much. Her second round of labwork all came back clean, and now we are waiting for the allergy tests to come back.

Bottom line: Since nothing gave us a conclusive answer as to what was going on with Malachi (so unsettling) the theory is she either has a food sensitivity (which the remaing tests will either rule-out or confirm) or she had a yeast infection internally that was causing bleeding. All in all, we're happy Malachi is so healthy and seems to be on the mend. God is just so good in taking care of our precious little baby.
